Sponges: a gem of nature

One of the "NO PLASTIC" movements is the movement to reconsider sponges. Recently, even commonly used dish sponges are releasing large amounts of microplastics, small plastic fibers, into the ocean every day. As part of the SDGs, changing everyday items from here is an important first step. If you look around, you will find that there are a surprising number of sponges that are close to nature. You can choose from a variety of sponges, including loofah sponges, cellulose and coconut scrubbers, sponges made from bundles of vetiver roots, and spun cotton cloth, depending on the purpose. Among them, the sponge that is best suited for human skin is called a sea sponge. Sea sponge fibers have the same properties as silk proteins and are made from the same amino acids as human skin, so they can be used without irritating the skin. For this reason, they are also useful as sponges for removing makeup. Sea sponges are very gentle on the skin and become surprisingly soft when they absorb water, making them extremely easy to hold and use.
